Flip SlideHD Camcorder, 4 Hours (White) NEWEST VERSION

Cisco Systems Inc, trying to boost the consumer appeal of its Flip camcorder, began offering a wider-screen camera that lets people store and displ
ay as much as 12 hours of high-definition video.

The company intends for the Flip SlideHD, with its 3-inch- wide screen, to become the camcorder version of people’s pocket-size digital still cameras. Consumers can record as much as four hours on the Flip Slide and, after compressing the video, can store up to 12 hours.

“Users are carrying a lot of their favorite videos with them and using the Flip as a brag book,” said Simon Fleming- Wood, senior director of marketing in Cisco’s consumer unit. “We decided we could do a better way of carrying your memories with you.”

Cisco, the world’s biggest maker of computer networking equipment, acquired the Flip last year as part of its purchase of Pure Digital Technologies Inc. Cisco is counting on the staff from Pure Digital to provide expertise on what electronic devices consumers want and how they want to use them. The Flip SlideHD, priced at about $280, goes on sale today.

Cisco, based in San Jose, California, first entered the consumer market with its 2003 purchase of Linksys Group Inc, a maker of home-networking gear for those who aren’t afraid of technical challenges. The company added more products for the home in 2006 with the acquisition of television set-top box maker Scientific-Atlanta Inc. Click here to know more >>>

Nikon D300 Review

Standing still, waiting for that moment, making a model pose in a certain way to get the desired effect, with all those lights doing their thing... Snap and you get the perfect shot. And that, friends, was the easiest bit!

Now, imagine this... You’re surrounded on all sides by white snow glistening with sunlight. You’re shooting a bunch of cars that are drifting on a track made of ice with the fierce glare of the sun trying its utmost to ruin your shot. And yeah, the cars are zipping past at over 120 kilometers per hour. You point your DSLR, focus on the moving subject and press down the clicker for a second.

The D300s captures seven shots out of which five are just perfect. With that, it had passed the litmus test. Now, let’s get on with the technical bits.

Built like an armour clad machine, Nikon D300s feels a bit bulky but pretty comfortable to hold. Like its predecessors, it’s built to resist the elements and is exactly the kind of snapper you’ll like to hang on to when getting ready to wrestle with nature to get that perfect shot of the king of the jungle leaping at its unsuspecting prey.

Constructed from a magnesium alloy frame with rubberised panelling around its grip, thumb rest and sides, it prevents water and dust incursion. The menu and the settings interface are user-friendly and will at the maximum take you 15 minutes to figure out. One of the most interesting bits about the D300s is its 7 frames per second (fps) continuous shooting -- which makes it perfect for sports or fast action photography.

As a picture snapper, this 12.3 megapixel device is undoubtedly as good as the D300. But what stands out is the video mode which is one of the most important additions to this model. Now you can shoot 720p high-definition footage (1280 x 720p) at 24 frames per second.

Nikon has also added some more functionality to it through the dedicated microphone port.

You can autofocus during recording and do some basic editing work on the camera itself. Another interesting addition would be the slot for the SD card which has been placed next to the CF card holder.

You get a whole lot of configuration options for these two. The camera also scores when it comes to shooting at higher ISOs in low light situation
s -- Nikon has successfully reduced the noise levels compared to previous models.

The Nikon D300s is frankly on par with the D300 when it comes to clicking images. The photo quality is excellent, the colours somehow look a lot better and the images seem brighter and livelier than those shot with others.

But one of the major differentiating points between the D300s and the others has to be the video mode, but somehow we feel, from our own experience at least, that with such a superb camera in hand we’d rather spend time shooting images than making videos.

While the 12.3 megapixel resolution that the D300s offers is good enough for most professionals or amateurs, rival camera maker Canon has comparable offerings at 15-18 megapixel.

But having said that, it’s definitely among the best in its class. Fast, easily navigable features and settings, amazing final shots...

HTC Touch Dual P5520 Unlocked Slider SmartPhone with Windows Mobile 6.0, 2 MP Camera, International 3G, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--International Version No Warranty

Click here to know more >>>
For once, HTC has managed to surprise us with the pricing of their product. Known for coming out with top-of-the-line, but expensive smartphones, the Smart, priced below $200.

The Smart is indeed smart-looking and sits pretty with a 2.8” touchcreen. Unlike other touchscreen devices in this segment, Smart doesn’t come across as a piece of toy you’d gift a college kid with. On the flipside, due to the strategic placement of metal in its body, it comes out as a phone with a lot of character -- something that is serious but has a fun side to it.

The layout of the keys is quite different and unique for an entry-level smartphone. The button which "ends calls" is also used as a phone-locker which seems a bit weird because it is situated right next to a big silver button with which you can access the menu. This big silver button overshadows the rest of the buttons due to its sheer size. Apart from the silver, green (obviously for attending calls), and the red buttons, it also has a tiny little button on the edge of the screen which gives out the mini onscreen menu for applications.

Coming to performance and functionality, the 2.8” screen has a QVGA resolution which, in normal cases, would be sneered at. But considering the size of the screen, it seems just right. Specification-wise, the Smart has a 300MHz processor, 256MB of RAM and is powered by Qualcomm’s Brew operating system. It’s true that Smart’s got a pretty raw deal against its big brothers but what’s unique is that we still get HTC’s sense features from the Android and Windows mobile range which gives us a fully loaded platform to play with.
The Smart also gives you an array of options to customise the look of your phone. Just pull down the top of the screen to access the scene menu where you can pre-define the look of the phone (placement of widgets, shortcuts and folders), according to your need. The user interface gives you seven home screens that you can build according to your taste and need.

The best feature is its virtual keyboard.Even with its small screen size, the touch, which is not that responsive, was up to the mark when it came to typing messages. The messages come in a threaded format and are easy to follow as every contact’s conversation can be accessed via the message app or through the profile in the address book.
As expected, the Smart is not Wi-Fi enabled and so we had to rely on our slow networks to enter www. Also, zooming in on pages is not that easy as the wonderful pinch and zoom function is missing in here. For multimedia buffs, the Smart comes with a 3.5 mm jack for your normal headphone and a microHD card slot to dump all your music and videos in. But the video playback has its own jitters and is not as good as in other phones in this category.
The 3 megapixel camera felt a bit shaky and the results were not really what we expected it to be. It may be because of the QVGA screen or the pint-sized processor. Even the final images took their own sweet time to process the images.

And to do all this you also get a wonderful battery life. After a full charge we used the gadget for almost a full day and the battery meter was still at about 50%. We can’t help but be happy with the way the Smart performs but what we don’t like is the price. It should have been around the 7K-mark.

The Smart has a lot of potential. Had it been a bit more conservatively priced, Samsung’s Corby would have had a difficult time ahead. Know more features here >>>
